If you drive to Sigiriya immediately after your arrival, it will take around 4 hours to reach the hotel in Sigiriya. Of course, a short break is also included in today’s itinerary. The distance to go is approximately 175 km; nevertheless, the journey takes approximately 4 hours. Perhaps you can drive 200 kilometres in two hours in your home country, but in Sri Lanka, it takes a little longer.

Due to severe traffic in cities, the time of the journey is also very variable. But, in my experience, you can get to Sigiriya from Colombo in 4 hours (no breaks). If you arrive in Sri Lanka early in the morning (about 4 a.m.), you will be able to reach Sigiriya in 3 hours. However, processing time for procedures at the arrival lounge will be necessary, which might range from 30 minutes to more than an hour.

Elephant orphanage in Pinnawala

Colombo is a coastal city near the seashore from where you may travel to the interior of Sri Lanka. The rural route is incredibly scenic, and you will pass through parts of forest, coconut farms, rubber plantations, and lonely settlements at regular intervals. Day 2: Sri Lanka 5 Days Cultural Tour -Sigiriya>>Polonnaruwa

On day 2, you will travel farther into Sri Lanka’s cultural triangle, seeing the most popular iconic cultural and historical site in Sri Lanka, the Sigiriya rock fortress. Later in the day, you will visit Polonnaruwa, Sri Lanka’s oldest and most ancient capital. You will not be travelling as far as you did the day before, but you will be travelling for around 2 hours. On day 2, you will have time for a Jeep safari in Minneriya. The Sigiriya trek usually takes about 2 hours, while the visit to the Polonnaruwa mediaeval city takes around 3 hours. A village tour with cooking and bird viewing in Sigiriya is another alternative activity that may be arranged; however, you must organise the time necessary for extra activities by altering the itinerary’s major elements.

Day 3: Sri Lanka 5 Days Cultural Tour- Sigiriya>> Kandy
